Agent Technologies on the Semantic Web.
This is the latest version of this eprint. Full text not available from this archive. AbstractAmong the current concerns of the emerging Semantic Web technology are various integration applications including integration of Web-Services for e-business environments. Recent trends consider Agent Technologies as possible active intelligent enablers for both the passive descriptive part of the Semantic Web (ontologies) and its programmatic components (Web services). Several reserch projects both in Europe and overseas prove that software agents may become a powerful and a flexible instrument bringing the Semantic Web alive. This course entitled "Agent Technologies on the Semantic Web" will survey some of these research achievements providing evidence of the "brain meeting brawn" on the emerging Semantic Web of collaborating intelligent software agents. Specifically the course will focus on one of the today's research challenges in the field - automated Semantic Web Service composition. Agents are the software which may use intelligent mechanisms for reaching automated agreements on tthe compositions of their services in a rational way. That is why the course will pay considerable attention to the aspects of automated utilitarian negotiations among software agents. It will be shown how distributed Agent- and Semantic Web Service-based architectures may be successfully implemented in distributed Information Retrieval.
