AbstractIn dynamical distributed systems the exchange of structural information is elementary for the organisation, interaction, and cooperation of the system's components. With the autonomous routing service ProNav, developed in this PhD on basis of a mobile agent system, structural information is provided in form of a locally available information base - a dynamical map - which contains up-to-date information on service offers within the system, as well as status information regarding the infrastructure. With this map and a dynamic route planner as additional component, a mobile agent is now able to fulfil its given task in a pro-active and autonomous fashion. An agent system specific migration optimiser, also based on the map's data, complements the framework and offers further possible improvements during an agent's migration process. Based this ProNav framework, an agent is now able to react to environmental changes dynamically, pro-actively and with a strategic perspective. The integration of ProNav in any mobile agent system's infrastructure will, therefore, move this system to a higher level of dynamics and autonomy, where the agent's itinerary is no longer static and information regarding the underlying network is gathered in a way that reflects its changes and growth.
